RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
I focus my research around the sustainable management of groundwater. Since groundwater is an invisible resource, its quantitative and qualitative management is often insufficient to ensure an efficient and future-oriented use. Thus, I am looking into the optimization of tools such as managed aquifer recharge (MAR) or soil aquifer treatment (SAT). By gaining a better understanding of the underlying processes, my research seeks to improve the technical aspects of the tool design as well as the applicability and knowledge transfer surrounding MAR techniques. To achieve this, I am involved in conducting laboratory experiments as well as in developing numerical models and web-based tools. While some of my work is theoretical, I have also been involved in applied research for case studies in Germany, Israel and Kazakhstan.
