ABSTRACT

Australia is known for extreme weather conditions and during hot seasons, water shortage is a common issue. A possible solution to improve water availability is managed aquifer recharge (MAR). The major part of this Bachelor thesis presents the results of a literature research about MAR applications and developments in Australia. Based on the European MAR catalogue, information about Australian MAR schemes has been collected, stored, compiled and the Australian data have been compared to the European data. The resulting data collection of this thesis is going to be integrated into a world-wide MAR database. Furthermore, the thesis introduces the topic of MAR in general and especially for Australia. Technologies used in MAR, as well as the usability of MAR are covered and three selected Australian MAR sites are described in detail. An increased use of MAR applications in Australia can be seen over the past ten years, especially in South Australia.
