Construction of the 3D infiltration tank for managed aquifer recharge completed
The construction of our lab-scale infiltration unit is now completed and we can start the infiltration experiments. The objectives of the investigations are the prediction and characterisation of clogging processes, the assessment of degradation processes occurring during soil percolation, and the vadose zone oxygen dynamics under different process and site-specific conditions (soil types, hydraulic loading cycles and climate). By comparing the water infiltration characteristics observed in a column, lab-tank and field investigations we will be able to predict the effect of the scale of the system on the general process parameters. The knowledge generated in the experiments shall thus be used for the verification and validation of the web-based DSS.
