Development of a technology concept for the treatment of industrial process water by means of a photocatalytically supported low-temperature plasma process
Funding period: 01.01.2022 bis 30.06.2024
Funding number: 02WQ1600C
Funding programme: SME Innovative Resource Efficiency and Climate Protection / Raw Material Efficiency
Project executing agency: PTKA Karlsruhe
The aim of the project is to develop, test and upscale an innovative water treatment technology.
The core element of this technique is a low-temperature plasma generated by high-voltage pulses. Its ionizing effect on water and gaseous compounds leads to significant formation of strongly oxidative radical species that react with recalcitrant organic pollutants in wastewater matrix. The UV radiation emitted in this process is additionally available for the degradation process via the implementation of semiconductor material.
The focus of the project is on adapting the process to the requirements of wastewater treatment in the textile industry. For textile manufacturers, wastewater treatment is a considerable cost factor.
The technical goal is to develop and test the fusion of electrochemical and photooxidatively active components to achieve significantly higher energy efficiency and degradation kinetics compared to conventional treatment technology.
The economic goal is to provide SMEs with the know-how to develop this technology to application maturity and to enable the commercialization of a product.
The associated partners from the textile industry can minimize the costs in establishing the process.
