Abstract
Tighter water quality regulations and requirements have been proposed continuously with growing awareness of environmental problem such as eutrophication and heavy-metal pollution. Online monitoring has became an important aspect as to provide valuable real-time information and warn about abnormal event in system and waste water treatment plant, which could be vital in cost control and process operation. This paper focused on transferring data from low-cost sensors to high-value information for direct monitoring. Two potential virtual sensor algorithms are selected and tested in a programming environment. Unit hydrograph is selected as transfer function. The algorithms achieve the goal of transferring the precipitation data into ammonium concentration with a relatively good performance.
