💬 Why He Chose the HSE Programme
"During my bachelor's, I spent a semester abroad and wanted to keep the door open to international opportunities. That led me to seek out English language Master's programmes. The HSE program’s structure really appealed to me, and having friends already studying in Dresden made the decision even easier."
His Experience in the Programme
"The programme was diverse and intellectually stimulating. Starting in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic made the first semester particularly stressful, but studying with a close friend gave me the support and motivation I needed. What stayed with me most is the mindset and approach to solving complex problems, skills that proved invaluable later in my career."
What Dresden Meant to Him
Niclas fondly remembers his time in Dresden for its vibrant student life and international community. From long summer evenings on the Elbe to cooking nights with classmates and parties in the industrial area, his experience extended well beyond academics. These moments, shared with fellow students from around the world, became lasting memories.
🌍 Where He Is Now
Today, Niclas is pursuing a second master’s degree in Marine and Antarctic Sciences at the University of Tasmania, specialising in marine biology. He received a DAAD postgraduate scholarship to support this next step. Prior to that, he spent two years at Wismut GmbH, where he worked on the remediation of industrial settling ponds. His responsibilities included planning engineering services, conducting hydrological and hydrogeological fieldwork, and preparing water law permit applications. He began there as a working student during his HSE studies and transitioned into a full-time role after graduation.
