In general, new small-scale data offerings and techniques in spatial data science and GeoAI enable in-depth analysis of spatial characteristics and patterns and support decisions on current and future trends in urban and regional development. Spatial information and modelling are becoming increasingly important in science and society, especially against the backdrop of the human-ecological crisis and the digital age. They are central to spatial and social sustainability transformations and thus open up considerable opportunities for application-oriented basic research.
