IHK awards research transfer prize 2018
On 18.6.2018 the research transfer prize 2018 of the IHK Heilbronn-Franken was solemnly awarded. The IHK research transfer prize in silver, endowed with 5,000 euros, went to Dr.-Ing. Sven Grunwald, research fellow at the Chair of Vehicle Mechatronics (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernard Bäker) at the Institute of Automotive Engineering Dresden - IAD, Faculty of Traffic Sciences, Dresden University of Technology and Dr. Ing. Friedrich Denkhaus, Rex Industrial Products Graf von Rex GmbH, Vellberg, for the joint project "Cem2S - Integrated Sensor Technology in Rotation".
As part of the research project, a highly integrated mechatronic brake disc embedded in a fiber composite material was designed.
Brake pads are safety-related components used in most industrial plants. In the past, only a few properties, such as temperature and wear can be determined automatically from the outside with great effort. With the integrated and encapsulated electronics, vibrations, positioning, function and friction speed of the magnetic brake are accessible without contact via Bluetooth. Other functions and industrial applications are conceivable.
This intelligent component can thus help to regulate and control plants, to more precisely record the technical processes of safety brakes and, for example, to carry out predictive parameter monitoring in the sense of "Industry 4.0" and "Internet of Things".
