On the way to autonomous driving: Traffic analysis launched in cooperation with Data From Sky!
For the validation of highly automated driving functions, knowledge of the real traffic situation is indispensable: Either for the generation of test scenarios for periodic technical inspection or for the validation of stochastic traffic simulations, for example.
One component for determining the real traffic situation is the traffic analysis using stationary cameras or drones. Thanks to a research cooperation with the video analysis provider Data From Sky (https://datafromsky.com/), the Chair of Automobile Engineering has been able since November of this year to automatically evaluate both stationary video recordings (see picture) as well as videos recorded with the aid of drones and to transfer them to a database. For the moment, the focus of the evaluations is on the trajectories of the participating vehicles and their interactions (e.g. distance to the vehicle in front).
Further video recordings of inner-city intersections in Dresden are planned for the coming months in order to be able to compare the traffic situation between different intersections.
