Elbflorace successfully qualifies for Formula Student Germany
On February 1, 2019 the Formula Student Team of TU Dresden Elbflorace could again successfully qualify for the Formula Student Germany (FSG) at the Hockenheimring. The Formula Student Germany is the most important competition for young engineers and racing drivers and will take place in 2019 from August 5th to 11th on the Grand Prix circuit in Hockenheim. This year, Elbflorace will participate in various competitions with its fully electric as well as its autonomous racing car. In addition to the competitions at the Hockenheimring, the team will also compete at the Formula Student competitions in the Netherlands, Austria, Spain and Hungary
Elbflorace has a long tradition at the TU Dresden. It was founded in 2006 by a small group of students. Their goal was to build their own racing car and compete against other universities. The construction and production of the first vehicle took almost two years. Right from the start, the Technical University and the Chair of Automobile Engineering supported the students in their demanding tasks. Formula Student is the largest engineering competition in the world, with over 500 universities participating worldwide. Designing and manufacturing a racing car means not only work at the highest technical level, but also concept-based project work and economic control.
The dedicated and hard work has paid off in recent years through outstanding achievements. Especially noteworthy is the year 2018, in which, among others, a 2nd place in the overall ranking of the Formula Student Netherlands, a 3rd place in the AutoX discipline at the Hockenheimring, as well as 1st places at all visited events (Hockenheimring, TT Circuit Assen, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Red Bull Ring Austria) in the Acceleration discipline were achieved. The setting of the previous acceleration record in Hockenheim with 2.22 s from 0 to 100km/h has to be emphasized.
The Chair of Automobile Engineering hopes that the team will be able to continue these results in 2019 and wishes all participants much success.
