Dresden scientist makes car rollover-proof and is honoured with Outstanding Paper Award
Fan Chang works at Audi AG and is doing his doctorate on the topic of "Rollover stability of passenger cars" as part of the ini.TUD cooperation project at TU Dresden. The ini.TUD cooperation was launched between TU Dresden and Audi AG in 2014 and has since enabled more than a dozen scientific papers in the fields of vehicle dynamics, automated driving, road safety, traffic psychology, lightweight construction and circular economy.
The dynamic rolling characteristics of passenger cars are complex and are determined by an interaction of tyres, elasto-kinematics of the chassis, body dynamics and control systems. Due to the increasing number of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in new car registrations, the issue of rollover safety is increasingly becoming a focus of vehicle safety, as these vehicles have a comparatively high centre of gravity and are therefore more susceptible to rollovers than other vehicles.
With his paper, Mr Chang was able to convince a wide professional audience at the annual congress of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Ingénieurs des Techniques de l'Automobile (FISITA) and won the "Outstanding Paper Award". His publication was additionally nominated for the "Manuel Junoy Memorial Prize".
We congratulate Mr Chang and all co-authors for this achievement and wish them continued success.
