Profile
The Chair of Rail Vehicles provides a broad-based education in railway vehicle engineering, complemented by advanced courses on specific subsystems such as structures, running gear, braking systems, and traction systems. While these courses are primarily aimed at mechanical engineering students, the teaching staff also impart railway systems knowledge to students enrolled in the degree programs in Transport Engineering and Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List”.
An exclusive focus on calculation and simulation is insufficient for the design and dimensioning of railway vehicles; it must be complemented by measurements and practical testing of prototypes under real operating conditions. The Chair is committed to this integrated approach and conducts research aimed at the further development of railway vehicle technology. Close cooperation is maintained with railway vehicle manufacturers, operators, and approval authorities. These activities are supported by the Systems Laboratory for Rail Vehicles.
