New elective module: “Advanced Modelling in Railway Transport Science”
We welcome all students to the wintersemester 2025/2026!
In addition to the established courses, the Chair of Railway Operations is offering a new elective module “Advanced Modelling in Railway Transport Science” by Prof. Dr. Nikola Bešinović for the first time this semester. It is aimed at students in our master's programs and those in the main phase of the diploma program. The module offers an in-depth examination of research design in the context of railway transport science, with a focus on the application of various quantitative methods such as data analysis, simulation, optimization, and artificial intelligence. The module aims to provide students with practical experience in conducting research through collaborative projects that address current challenges in the railway industry and provides real-world examples. During the semester, students work in teams on a selected topic and gain practical experience in formulating research questions, designing methods, collecting and analyzing data, conducting experiments, and applying optimization, analysis, and/or AI algorithms. They also develop a deep understanding of how these techniques can be used to improve the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of railway and multimodal systems.
