AirMetro Summer School 2025 – Shaping Air Mobility Together

From May 26 to 28, the AirMetro Summer School 2025 took place in Geierswalde and Kamenz – bringing together over 50 participants from academia and industry, all united by a shared mission: advancing Advanced Air Mobility in a safe, sustainable, and socially responsible way.

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in discussions, hands-on experiments, and knowledge exchange – from early-morning coffee chats to late-evening flight field trials. Highlights included UAV flight tests at Kamenz airfield to gather real-time data for BVLOS traffic management, interactive workshops on navigation, control systems, and U-Space, the Smart Mobility Lab construction site visit, as well as an open panel discussion on certification pathways and public acceptance of urban air transport.

The program was enriched by insightful guest talks from:

• Prof. Aamir Ahmad (University of Stuttgart) on cooperative drone fleets

• Prof. Eike Stumpf (RWTH Aachen) on future aircraft system concepts

• Timon Slowik (AEF) on U-Space management in the Lausitz region

• Prof. Harald Pfifer (TU Dresden) on flight controller tuning

• Leonard Bauersfeld (ETH Zurich) on combining physics-based and learning-based models

• Milan Topp (LSBG Hamburg) on the BLU Space digital airspace initiative

The event concluded with a relaxed evening by the lake – complete with BBQ and plenty of new connections.
