Chair of Road Planning and Road Design
The Chair of Road Planning and Road Design was established in 1992 with the re-establishment of the Friedrich List Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at TU Dresden.
It follows in the tradition of the Chair of Pavement Engineering/Road Traffic at the former Dresden University of Transport (HfV ). The head was Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Günter Weise until his retirement in 2001.
Following new appointees, the Chair has been headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. e. h. Christian Lippold since November 2001. Professor Lippold took a leave of absence at the end of 2019 to support the federal government's Autobahn GmbH in its development as Head of the Planning, Construction, Innovation Division. In June 2024, he moved to Autobahn GmbH on a permanent basis. Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Ltd. BD (ret.) Reinhard Koettnitz has headed the Chair since the end of 2019.
The Chair's areas of work include teaching and research in the field of road planning and design. This includes the recording and evaluation of roads and road networks. The Chair also has a permanent place on the committees of the FGSV in the revision of road design regulations.
In addition, consulting and services are offered, e.g. for planning measures, safety audits or the training and further education of engineers.
