Cycling Research Board Annual Meeting: A global exchange on the topic of cycling research
CRBAM, which took place in Zurich from 4 to 6 September, was entirely dedicated to the topic of cycling research and thus offered a unique platform for international exchange and scientific discourse. Researchers and experts came together to discuss the latest developments, research and innovations in the world of cycling. TU Dresden was strongly represented with four institutes, making a significant contribution to the scientific exchange.
Strong research from Germany and Switzerland
In addition to TU Dresden, the host university, ETH Zurich, was also prominently represented and provided insights into its pioneering research in the field of bicycle and mobility innovation. The conference provided in-depth insights into projects that are highly relevant at both national and international level.
Contributions from our professorship: focus on innovative research
The Chair of Transport Ecology contributed several exciting papers to the conference:
- 🚲 Session 3E (Thursday, 11:00): ‘Same same but different - Examining the influence of city-related factors on diverse cycling behaviours’ by Sven Lißner, Stefan Huber, Katrin Lubashevsky and Iryna Okhrin.
- 🚲 Session 6A (Thursday, 16:30): ‘Detecting Statistically Significant Changes in Cycling Volumes Based on Crowdsourced GPS-Data’ by Emely Richter.
- 🚲 Session 7E (Friday, 10:00): ‘Let's talk about representativeness - a framework for evaluating primary data sources for cycling indicators’ by Emely Richter and Sven Lißner.
- 🚲 Session 8B (Friday, 11:00): ‘Enriching OpenStreetMap Data using Computer Vision and Street View Imagery’ by Iwan Porojkow.
- 🚲 Session 9A (Friday, 13:30): ‘Classification of bicycle infrastructure in OpenStreetMap’ by Mirosława Łukawska.
These presentations covered a wide range of topics, from the analysis of cycling behaviour in cities to the use of OpenStreetMap data to improve cycling infrastructure. The use of crowdsourcing and computer vision for innovative applications was a particular highlight of the presentations.
Preview: Next CRBAM conference in Amsterdam
The next CRBAM conference will take place in Amsterdam from 10 to 12 September 2025. We are already looking forward to being part of this international platform again and presenting further research results.
