S@MPler - Integrated education based on sustainable urban mobility projects
The urban space is a complex system with many stakeholders, i.e. citizens, local authorities, companies and non-profit organisations. The focus of their expectations is now particularly on better use of existing resources, less environmental impact and a higher quality of life. SUMPs - "Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans" - are a tool for implementing these criteria. SUMPs are strategic and action plans which are based on common European transport development planning practices and take into account in particular the principles of integration, participation and evaluation. The preparation of such plans is a challenge for practitioners, as well as for lecturers at universities who are responsible for teaching the necessary skills. An interdisciplinary and cross-university coordination of courses can be helpful in this respect. In order to come closer to this goal, the S@MPLER project will analyse existing SUMP-related teaching materials, integrate them into a comprehensive teaching approach and publish them.
For this purpose, a consortium of three universities is working together: the University of Gdansk (Poland) as the project leader, the University of Jan Evangelista in Ústí nad Labem (Czech Republic) and the Dresden University of Technology (Germany). Each university has extensive experience in teaching and research in the field of sustainable urban mobility development.
