VINK - "Transport infrastructure development, induced traffic and climate impacts"
The construction of new and the expansion of existing transport infrastructures leads to additional CO2 emissions: Generally, more traffic is induced and construction processes, materials and land use lead to more emissions.
The ‘VINK’ project analyses for the Hessian "Klimabeirat" (engl.: Advisory Board on Climate Change) how much additional CO₂ emissions are to be expected as a result of the implementation of the Hessian projects in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 (german: Bundesverkehrswegeplan 2030). The study focusses on two main aspects:
- Estimation of the additional traffic to be expected and the resulting extra transport-related CO₂ emissions;
- Estimation of material and construction-related CO₂ emissions.
