BDA participates in "KTH - TU Dresden Mobility"-Workshop
On March 21-22, 2024 members of our team - Prof. Pascal Kerschke, Sebastian Dengel und Lukas Bodi - participated in the workshop "KTH – TU Dresden Mobility | Rail, Freight and Public Transport". This event was jointly organized by the Chair of Railway Operations and the Division of Transport Planning of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden's largest technical university. Alternating between researchers from TUD and KTH, 15-minute presentations were given on various topics grouped around "Public transport", "Rail", "Freight" and "Data". The richness of more than 30 presentations led to a great exchange.
Sebastian Dengel presented the status quo of his master thesis, in which he analyzes patterns in the usage of shared scooters, by applying cluster analyses to the scooters' location data. Moreover Pascal Kerschke gave an overview of current research topics of our chair. The portfolio of presented topics includes:
- investigating the usability of cluster analysis algorithms in the context of transportation science applications,
- efficiently processing point clouds (such as those generated by LiDAR sensors),
- using machine learning methods to enhance robustness in recognition of robots,
- adapting automated and interpretable machine learning methods (AutoML and IML) for modeling temporal-spatial relationships in the context of renewable energies,
- improving state-of-the-art search heuristics to efficiently and reliably determine optimal routes for instances of the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP),
- integrating reinforcement learning to automatically and quickly find promising solutions in Vehicle Routing Problems (VRP), and
- researching various fundamental topics in the context of single- and multi-objective optimization of continuous black-box problems.
In addition, this workshop provided the opportunity to exchange ideas with one of the founding members of our chair, Jonas Jostmann, who meanwhile became a PhD student at KTH.
We thank the organizers for inviting us to this event and look forward to future collaborations.
