HowTUData
Digitalization and AI are increasingly shaping our everyday lives. Since these are based on data-driven processes, solid data skills — such as critically questioning data-driven results (data literacy) and the ability to handle them practically and technically (data proficiency) —are among the key skills of our time.
The HowTUData project is developing an innovative, versatile, accessible, two-stage learning and teaching scenario to promote data literacy skills, which can be used regardless of subject area, qualification level (bachelor's, master's, doctorate), or other learner groupings.
To this end, we are currently developing an Open Educational Resource (OER) that will be published on AI-Campus, a prominent, publicly accessible teaching platform offering learning opportunities on AI-related topics. The goal is to provide two consecutive courses: an introductory course in data literacy, which teaches basic skills in handling and interpreting data, and an application-oriented advanced course in data proficiency, which focuses on methodological skills in handling open data. We are guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our selection of case studies for analysis. The courses include both lecture elements and interactive exercises.
Selected components of the courses will be integrated into the "Data Analytics – Fundamentals" course in the summer term 2026 in order to gather initial feedback from students. The courses are scheduled to be published on AI-Campus in August 2026.
