An der Professur wurde ein Regelungskonzept zur dezentralen Selbststeuerung von Lichtsignalanlagen in städtischen Straßennetzwerken entwickelt. Das Verfahren beruht im Kern auf einem nichtlinearen hybrid-dynamischen Modell, aus dem Optimalitätskriterien zur dynamischen Priorisierung von Verkehrsströmen abgeleitet werden. Das neuartige vollverkehrsabhängige Verfahren zeichnet sich gegenüber herkömmlichen regel- oder umlaufbasierten Verfahren durch eine besonders hohe Flexibilität und Effizienz bei der Verkehrsregelung und eine besonders hohe Robustheit unter variierenden Randbedingungen aus. Im Rahmen eines von der DFG geförderten Forschungsprojekts ist dieses Verfahren systematisch zu erweitern, um eine selbstorganisierte Kapazitätsregulierung in spontan gestörten bzw. übersättigten Netzen zu ermöglichen.
