Seven Drones Fly Together to Capture Traffic Data in Milan, Italy
The chair recently conducted drone-based traffic data collection effort on the A50 highway in Milan, Italy. With a co-ordinated fleet of 7 Drones flying in a line, traffic was captured over a 1000m road section for 130 minutes. Our team member Ankit Chaudhari oversaw the data collection on site.
The video footage is currently being processed to extract vehicle trajectories, with data analysis expected to follow soon. The collected data has the potential to provide valuable insights into traffic patterns and driver behavior, which can be used to optimize urban transportation infrastructure for better mobility and safety for all road users.
The data collection has been financed by the DFG-funded Project: Enhancing Traffic Flow Understanding by Two-Dimensional Microscopic Models - ETF2D.
The chair would like to extend a special thanks to RCE Systems s.r.o. aka DataFromSky and Immagini al volo for their support in conducting the data collection.
