Areas of research
For being able to identify and explore efficiency potentials of transport as well as logistical services, a holistic view of the service provision of transport and logistics goods is required. The following graphic gives an overview of different perspectives on transport and logistical questions as well as of the four areas of research which include the research projects of the Chair of Transport Services and Logistics.
The opportunities for added value in relevant applications are examined in the research field revenue management in transport and logistics. Examples are the approaches for the revenue management of logistical services and the tariff management in public transport.
The research of strategies and concepts for the efficient and value-adding use of traffic and logistics relevant resources is in the focus of the area of research resource optimization. Thereby, special attention is paid to the research and design of decision-making processes which lead to resource deployment (inter alia the concept and use of software and hardware products in the areas of traffic and logistics).
Business models for innovative transport and traffic concepts address the analysis and design of applications based on new technologies and ideas in the areas of traffic, transport and logistics. An example for a line of research in this field is the sharing of resources in traffic and logistics.
The complexity of decision problems in the area of transport, traffic and logistics is extremely high due to comprehensive planning data as well as diverse decision options. For being able to deal with this complexity, the Chair of Transport Services and Logistics researches and evaluates innovative concepts for decision support in the research field intelligent methods for planning and management. These concepts result from a combination of modern hardware and software technologies with concepts for decision support in the design of systems and networks and when managing processes of service provision therein.
