AZubiG - Electronic system for automatic train formation for freight cars
Project description
In AZubiG, a complete system for the automation of shunting processes in train formation yards based on an electrically powered road-rail vehicle and highly available localization and communication of freight cars is to be developed and brought to demonstration maturity. The aim is to create a system innovation that can be retrofitted at low cost and is interoperable with conventional shunting systems.
Potential uses after a successful project are mainly at shunting sites, where no large marshalling yards are justified by low traffic volumes. In addition, the cross-modal use of individual subsystems is also possible, since parts of the intended innovation pillars (safe communication and integrated positioning) are also essential prerequisites for highly automated driving in road traffic.
AZubiG will lay the foundation for electromobile logistics in rail freight transport. AZubiG also enables automatic and highly flexible round-the-clock shunting and rail operations. This will make the last mile on the rail and thus the entire rail system competitive again and enable it to play out its ecological and economic advantages.
