Green Transition Conference at the HTW Dresden
On 26 January 2024, the Green Transition Conference took place at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW), a joint event of the Transfer Centre for Biodiversity Saxony (BIOZENTRA), HTW Dresden and TU Dresden. The conference focussed on the topic of biodiversity in business and industry and provided a platform for scientists and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas.
Prof. Dr Remmer Sassen, chair holder of the environmental management chair at the IHI Zittau at TU Dresden, highlighted the challenges of the biodiversity crisis and emphasised the responsibility of companies and society to stop the loss of biodiversity. His contribution emphasised the importance of a sustainable transformation in line with the European Green Deal and the EU taxonomy.
The conference was also enriched by other exciting speakers such as Prof Dr Arne Cierjacks (BIOZENTRA/HTW Dresden), Prof Dr René Thamm and Prof Dr Swen Günther (HTW Dresden), Thomas Schlomski (Kempker & Schlomski GmbH), Dr Karsten Grunewald (IÖR Dresden), and Pascal Bunk (Knauf Gibs KG/Biodiversity in Good Company). The topics ranged from the role of business administration in the sustainable transformation process to the ecological monitoring perspective for corporate biodiversity reporting. The event also offered the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the "Industry 5.0 model factory of the Smart Production Systems working group" at HTW Dresden.
Many thanks to the conference organisers and all participants for their contribution to a successful and informative event. The Green Transition Conference shows that biodiversity management is not only a responsibility, but also a significant competitive advantage for companies.
