Energy Economics (Ski-)Seminar: Simulation game electricity market of the future
The module "Research Topics in Energy Economics I & II" will take place in the winter semester 2023/24 as an energy economics seminar entitled " Simulation Game Electricity Market of the Future". The seminar focuses on the question of which electricity market design guarantees a secure, cost-effective and environmentally friendly electricity supply even with a high share of renewable capacity. Over the course of the semester, students will examine the positions of various stakeholders on this issue. In addition to the seminar paper, they will prepare a position paper for their assigned stakeholder group based on literature research and economic analyses, which will serve as the basis for the dialog with the other representatives on the future of the electricity market. This dialog and the synthesis of the various positions into a coherent proposal for the future of the electricity market will take place at the Söllerhaus in the heart of the Kleinwalsertal ski resort (Austria). The seminar thus enables an intensive exchange on energy industry topics, in particular on electricity market design in the context of a decarbonized energy system with high shares of renewable energies and sector coupling, combined with an attractive leisure program.
