Participation in the 19th IAEE Conference in Munich

From September 6 to 10, 2026, the 19th conference of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) took place in Munich on the campus of the Technical University. Under the theme “Energy Security, Sustainability & Affordability – Rebalancing the Trilemma,” international researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, and practitioners discussed current challenges and approaches for achieving a secure, sustainable, and affordable energy system.

The Chair of Energy Economics was represented by Prof. Möst and five research associates. Jakob Baumgarten presented a GIS-based multi-criteria approach for identifying suitable sites for photovoltaic-based green hydrogen production in the MENA region. Hendrik Scharf presented joint research with Sophie Jacobs on electricity price developments under different system flexibility scenarios and their implications for the profitability of small-scale biogas plants in Germany. Lisa Lorenz analyzed the welfare and security-of-supply effects of alternative offshore wind hub designs in European electricity markets. Jannis Eichenberg investigated potential conflicts between dynamic grid tariffs and renewable energy support schemes from a market equilibrium perspective.

Beyond the academic sessions, the conference provided numerous opportunities for professional exchange and international networking. A varied social program, including a gala dinner, complemented the scientific program and provided an opportunity to conclude the conference days in a relaxed atmosphere.
