The course “Introduction to Business Administration” is a part of the module “Introduction to Business Administration and Organization”.
Within this module, students of the Faculty of Business and Economics must complete a written examination lasting 120 minutes. This examination represents a combination of the courses “Introduction to Business Administration” and “Organization”. The part of the exam dealing with the content of the “Introduction to Business Administration” course accounts for three quarters of the full module exam. The exam is offered during the regular examination period in every semester. For students of other faculties, the exam is also offered without the part "Organization" (90 minute exam).

The course gives an overview of the general problem areas of businesses. The students will be introduced to the following topics: basic terminology and principles of business administration, the company as the object of business, innovations and trade mark rights, legal structures, project management, production and logistics, market and competition, service management, marketing, controlling, technology management, human resources, organization, business culture, financing, company evaluation and business models. Multiple practical examples offer an insight into the world of companies.
In order to increase the interactivity of this introductory course, a voluntary project in November has been offered since Winter 2010/11. The project takes place as part of the worldwide “Global Entrepreneurship Week” (Gründerwoche). During this week, participants have the chance to try out being an entrepreneur themselves. Students of Introduction to Business Administration can either take part in a Startup Week project and receive up to 20 points out of 90 for the exam or alternatively read five English journal articles and answer questions about them in the exam. Further information about the structure and objectives of the Startup Week Project are given in the lecture and on OPAL. ► Academic and Scientific Work (WPA-Seminar)

In this course, academic seminar work is supervised by our chair. The course extends over two semesters (starts in Summer Semester). To receive credit points, students must write a seminar paper which is weighted 60% and hold a presentation which is weighted 40%. According to the new exam regulations, the exam consists of a seminar paper and two ungraded forms of examination from the offerings catalogue.

In this course, the students will be taught the basics of academic work. In the first section of the course, the students will be prepared for the writing of academic work. Topics like information and literature research, as well as reading and writing academic texts will be covered. The writing of the seminar paper will be supervised by the staff of the respective chair. In the second section of the course, possible fields of work and development perspectives for Bachelor students will be analyzed. In addition, the students will practice the preparation and presentation of short academic presentations. The students will then present and discuss their seminar work in a end-of-the-semester presentation.
