Delores Workshop in Dresden
After the first part of the Delores23 workshop took place in London, the participants met for the second part in Dresden from 25.-27.09.2023 . The Delores23 workshop aims to support young scientists in the field of operations research at the beginning of their academic careers.
The second part focused on discussing the participants' inter-workshop revised papers. In addition, how to write constructive reviews and how to respond to reviews were presented. In addition to keynote speeches by the mentors and small group discussions, we welcomed online guest speakers Alice Smith and Alexandra Newman, two extremely renowned editors-in-chief from leading operations research journals. While Alice Smith provided information on successful publishing in peer-reviewed journals, Alexandra Newman gave insights into energy-oriented surface coal mine production scheduling.
The scientific program was enriched by interesting plant tours of Infineon Dresden and Gläsernen Manufaktur. But informal exchanges and networking were not neglected either - as at the closing dinner.
We would like to thank everyone for participating in the Delores23 workshop. Due to the very positive feedback, mentors Beatriz Brito Oliveira, Liji Shen, and Janis Neufeld, together with initiators Rym M’Hallah and Udo Buscher, have decided to offer the workshop again next year. Liji Shen has kindly agreed to host Delores24 in Vallendar at WHU.
Sincere thanks go to the transCampus initiative, which made Delores23 possible with its funding.
