Final Theses

General Information

The final thesis serves to deepen the knowledge acquired during coursework. Our goal is to actively involve students in our research group’s projects - particularly those currently underway - thereby providing insight into contemporary scientific topics within the fields of sustainability and biodiversity management. Our strategy is to assign only topics with a solid scientific foundation, as the aim is for student work to support current research initiatives. If you wish to write your thesis in collaboration with a company, please ensure when selecting a topic that it aligns with our core research areas. The research group reserves the right to adjust the scope of the assignment in consultation with both you and the company to ensure it meets the requirements of all parties involved.

Eligibility for first assessment

Students who want to write a thesis at our professorship under Prof. Remmer Sassen's supervision must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's students: 

For students, applying for a Bachelor's thesis also constitutes an application for a place in our Bachelor's seminar (syllabus TBA). In the Bachelor's seminar, you will acquire the essential skills needed for a successful Bachelor's thesis. The Bachelor's seminar must be completed prior to the Bachelor's thesis.

Master's & Diploma students: 

For students, applying for a Master’s or Diploma thesis simultaneously constitutes an application for a place in our research seminar (syllabus TBA). In this research seminar, you will acquire the essential skills and tools needed for a successful Master’s or Diploma thesis. The research seminar must be completed prior to the thesis itself.

Eligibility for second assessment

Students who wish to write a thesis at our chair with Prof. Remmer Sassen as a second examiner, must meet the requirements listed above for the first examiner. The topic, and thus the thesis, must include business issues to 50%. Furthermore, it must be clarified in advance with the respective first examiner that an accompanying consultation of the thesis by our faculty is guaranteed; this includes, as a minimum, agreement on the outline.

If you want to write a thesis at our chair, please send your application for a place in the bachelor or research seminar (letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, current overview of grades) to the Office Manager, along with a list of your preferred topics.
