Attendance Policy
If you decide for one of our courses, we expect your attendance in the entire course. We understand that you have other time commitments, especially job interviews. However, please try to schedule them in a way that they do not overlap with our courses. It is part our philosophy that your main job is to be a student and co-producer of your university education.
Why do we pursue this attendance policy? For two reasons:
- The knowledge imparted in the courses may be important for the handling of projects. "As teachers, we may open the door, but the students have to enter themselves" (Chinese proverb).
- Others may learn from your attendance and contributions to discussions. The seminar situation is an excellent opportunity for cooperative learning. Oftentimes your team colleagues and fellow students are a rich source for new insights and solutions to problems you may encounter.
Communication Strategy
Please make sure that you are registered in OPAL for every course (Online Platform for Academic Learning at Saxon universities)! This way you have access to all information from the courses.
For further questions you are welcome to contact us, but please abide by the following rules regarding communication:
- Relevance of information: In the courses we try to foster independent learning! So please only ask questions that may not be answered by using the given syllabus and given materials or by asking your fellow students.
- Quality of information: Try to ensure that the information you give us is clear and precise. This enables us to fully process it. Please be aware of our requirements for labeling emails and naming files.
- Quantity of messages: Please determine one messenger for your team who coordinates the communication between teachers and the members of your team when working on analysis reports. This way we can prevent redundancies. Consult your fellow students regularly so that all members are up to date and you may generate additional value (collective intelligence). You may use the forum in OPAL as a communication platform.
- Transmission of information: Attempt direct communication. A possibility for this is directly speaking to teachers at the end of class. Mr. Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen as well as the other teachers always offer a consultation after every class. A short discussion is often more helpful for solving a problem than a cumbersome email communication!
