In an Era of Geopolitical Challenges—A Symposium in Honor of Georg Milbradt

On September 22, 2026, in the Dülfer Hall at TU Dresden, together with the Dresden branch of the ifo Institute, we bid farewell to Prof. Dr. Georg Milbradt after many years of dedicated teaching at the Faculty of Business and Economics —with a symposium titled “In the Age of Geopolitical Challenges.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Werner Sinn for a lecture on the “European Defense Alliance” that was as inspiring as it was thought-provoking—a topic that could hardly be more timely given the current geopolitical situation. Equally heartfelt thanks go to Prof. Dr. Johannes Becker and Prof. Dr. Georg Milbradt for an exciting and insightful panel discussion on “Geopolitical Challenges for Europe’s Economy and Society,” which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann, as well as to Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum for his opening remarks.
 

Our greatest thanks on this day go to Georg Milbradt himself: for his many years of dedicated teaching and his ongoing support of research in the field of Business Administration and Economics in Dresden.

Georg Milbradt is the former Minister-President of Saxony. Since 2009, he has served as an Extraordinary Professor at the faculty; prior to that, he held the same position at the University of Münster. From 2015 to 2017, Georg Milbradt served as the Federal Government’s Special Representative for Administrative Modernization in Ukraine.
