Dr. Matthias Mattusch and Lena Sombrowski awarded the Deutsche Bundesbank Prize
On April 23, 2026, the Bundesbank Prizes 2025 were awarded at a ceremony at the Deutsche Bundesbank's headquarters for Saxony and Thuringia in Leipzig. The prizes were awarded for outstanding dissertations and student theses written at the Faculties of Business and Economics at Chemnitz University of Technology, TU Dresden and Leipzig University.
Award winners 2025: Dr. Matthias Mattusch and Lena Sombowski
The award winners from our faculty are Dr. Matthias Mattusch and Lena Sombrowski. Matthias Mattusch received the prize for his dissertation "Essays on Financial Technology: Advances in Generative Artificial Intelligence for Asset Pricing, Market Microstructure, and Fintech Firms", which was written at the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Finance and Financial Technology under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf and examines the central developments of technological innovations in the financial system. Lena Sombrowski's Master's thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Stefan Eichler. In her thesis entitled "The impact of the banking union on the risk behavior of banks - Are Europe's banks still too big to fail", Lena Sombrowski investigated whether banks are taking fewer risks following the introduction of the Bank Restructuring and Resolution Directive and whether systemically important banks in particular are adjusting their behavior more than non-systemically important banks. We would like to congratulate our two prizewinners on being awarded the prize by the Deutsche Bundesbank.
