Women’s rights, colonialism and development: Retrospective German Development Economics Conference 2023
On June 1 and 2, the German Development Economics Conference 2023 took place at the faculty. The conference is organized by the Development Economics Committee of the German Economic Association and consists of an internal meeting of elected experts from German-speaking countries and an open international meeting. About 150 researchers participated in the meeting. The keynote lectures were given by Michèle Tertilt (Women's Rights in the Global South) and Stelios Michalopoulos (Private Colonialism in Africa). Michèle Tertilt also participated in a public discussion event at the Frauenkirche in Dresden on the topic of women's rights, where experts also from the field of development policy discussed the role of feminist development policy and the implications for development cooperation.
The conference was a cooperation of TU Dresden, Verein für Socialpolitik, the Center for International Studies and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau.
