New publication in Omega: Optimization approaches for complex agricultural planning
The team from the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Industrial Management, has published an article in the journal Omega together with Mike Hewitt from Loyola University Chicago. With the participation of Florian Linß, Udo Buscher and former colleague Janis S. Neufeld, a new optimization approach was developed for complex planning problems in the agricultural sector. The study is dedicated to the question of how limited resources in agricultural research environments - for example in greenhouses or field experiments - can be planned in such a way that as many orders as possible are taken into account and delays are minimized.
In a comprehensive computational study, it was shown that the available machine capacity has a greater influence on the results than the length of the time window between the release and due date of the orders. In addition, even a slight reduction in the number of accepted orders can lead to significantly shorter delays.
