New CHE University Ranking: TUD offers excellent support for new students
Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) offers its students enrolled in business and economics subjects excellent support in beginning their studies, first-class equipment and a broad spectrum of courses and materials. These are just some of the results from the Centre for Higher Education’s (CHE) University Ranking – the largest of its kind in Germany – published today in the 2023/24 study guide issued by the ZEIT weekly newspaper and on HeyStudium. In addition to facts about degree programs and study conditions, teaching, and research, the ranking comprises reviews from students about their own universities. This year, the degree programs Business and Economics, Business Administration, Economics, Economics and Engineering, and Business Information Systems were re-evaluated.
“Ensuring our students have a good start to their studies and benefit from a widespread spectrum of support services are matters close to our hearts,” emphasizes Prof. Michael Kobel, Vice-Rector Academic Affairs at TU Dresden. “We are delighted that the CHE University Ranking has placed TU Dresden amongst the leading universities in Dresden in this area for the subjects in question.” The number of doctorates per professor in Business Administration, Economics, and Business and Economics also made TU Dresden stand out from the competition.
It is particularly worth noting what students have to say about the university. In fact, Business Information Systems students at TU Dresden have reported that they are very satisfied with the way studies are organized and how well equipped the libraries are. In addition, 95 percent appreciate how easy it is to get in contact with teaching staff and the support they offer with any questions or problems. This also applies to assistance with stays abroad. The topical range of courses has been praised by 96 percent of the surveyed students in the Economics and Engineering degree program, as have the opportunities for finding an individualized concentration in their studies (freedom in selecting courses and topics for written academic work).
CHE Ranking confirms results of other surveys
The positive assessment coincides with other surveys conducted, including the rankings published by Wirtschaftswoche in 2022. The German business news magazine surveyed over 500 human resources representatives about the universities from which they prefer to recruit their personnel. TU Dresden alumni from Business Information Systems and Economics and Engineering in particular are highly coveted as prospective employees. Companies have ranked TUD as the fourth most popular university for Business Information Systems and fifth for Economics and Engineering nationwide. Overall, Wirtschaftswoche views TUD as a “rare beacon of German university education in the eastern half of the Republic.”
About the CHE Ranking
Based on feedback from around 120,000 surveyed students, the CHE University Ranking has provided the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of universities in the German-speaking world for 25 years.
This year, for the first time, the results of the student survey about the general study conditions are clearly illustrated using a 5-star scale. As in previous years, the fact-based results are categorized into three ranking groups (a top group, a middle group, and a bottom group).
