Media Response to the Whistleblower Protection Act
On passing of the Whistleblower Protection Act in the German Bundestag on 16.12.22, Dr. Sebastian Oelrich (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Management Accounting and Control) was quoted as an expert by Tagesschau, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Manager Magazin, and Netzpolitik and asked for his assessment.
His conclusion: finally and for the first time, whistleblowers in Germany are comprehensively protected, even if individual critical areas continue to be excluded. He sees the possibility for whistleblowers to remain anonymous as particularly positive, which he also advocated in the legislative process based on his own research results. The TU as a university is now also obliged to set up such an internal and anonymous reporting channel.
