Participation of Vilja Lange in the Journal of Management Studies PDW in Cambridge
Vilja Lange, a doctoral student at the Chair of Sustainability Management and Assessment, had the privilege of attending the Journal of Management Studies PDW at Churchill College, University of Cambridge in March.
At this event organized by the Journal of Management Studies, she had the opportunity to be in a room with five editors of the journal (Paolo Aversa, Yasin Rofcanin, Claudia Gabbioneta, Shameen Prashantham and Bill Schulze) to talk about submissions, the review process and academic careers.
Vilja Lange summarizes the most important findings from the Professional Development Workshop as follows:
1. Rejections happen all the time. Every researcher is rejected several times before they are successful. If an article is rejected, revise it instead of just submitting it somewhere else. A rejection does not reflect on you as a person or the quality of your research. Therefore, always submit a paper that you feel confident about.
2. "Ready to submit" is not "ready to publish. "The revision process is like having a direct dialog with reviewers.
3. Set clear boundaries. Especially in academia, it is critical to always prioritize rest and recovery as well.
The Journal of Management Studies Professional Development Workshop is aimed at doctoral students and is an additional offer to the Journal of Management Studies (JMS) Conference. The workshop is designed to support the professional development of doctoral students and, above all, to teach strategies for successfully writing and publishing journal articles.
