Short biography:
Univ. Dr. Armin Töpfer leads the Research Group Corporate Management and Marketing (FGMU) at Technische Universität Dresden and the Research Group Management + Marketing in Kassel. In addition, he is senior scientific director of the MBA program Health Care Management at Dresden International University.
Previous positions were at the University of Freiburg, at the EAP European School of Business in Düsseldorf, with further locations in Paris, Oxford, Madrid and now Berlin, as well as the field of Management at the University of Kassel. He did not accept a call for an international Chair of Management and Marketing at the University of Twente / Enschede in Holland.
His main teaching and research fields are Value-oriented Corporate Management/ Balanced Score Card, Strategic Marketing/ Customer Relationship Management/ Service Management, Logistics Management, Business Excellence, Business Process Optimization/ Lean Six Sigma, Mergers & Acquisitions, Hospital Management, Human Resource Management/ Measurement of Corporate Culture and Digital Transformation.
Key empirical research projects are: Planning and control systems of industrial companies, Strategic Marketing Concepts in German industry, Future Orientation of Corporate HR, The implementation of the Balanced Score Card in corporate practice, Analysis of Post Merger Integration at DaimlerChrysler, Crisis Management, Success Factors and effects of E -Learning, Business Entrepreneurship, Benchmarking Study of Employee Surveys, Combination of surveys of patients, referring doctors and employees, Value-based Quality Management and Measuring the Quality of Corporate Culture as well as the annual representative study for the “Versicherten-Barometer” at health insurance companies. For his research, he received scientific prizes at home and abroad.
Major projects in cooperation with the practice are: The restructuring of the Daimler-Benz Group (1995-1997), Sudden corporate crises/ The crisis of the A-Class, The reorganization of the Airbus industry, The overall and business benefits of standardization (DIN), Sector analysis Ophthalmic companies: Market and Customer requirements, recommendations for action and Strategic Marketing Concepts for service companies.
He is a member of national and international associations/ jury on Business Excellence and co-publisher of the series Forum Marketing. He is also chairman and member of advisory boards of industrial and service companies.
In addition, he has been coordinating all cooperation activities at TU Dresden with Deutsche Bahn AG for more than 10 years.
