Automated transcription of interviews

Interviews are often used as part of qualitative research work, and manual transcription takes a lot of time - approximate values are 6 to 10 times as long. Transcription by external service providers is usually very expensive and automated, cloud-based services rarely work in compliance with data protection regulations.

In order to create transcripts automatically, free of charge and in compliance with data protection regulations, the Computer Computing Lab has set up a powerful virtual machine at the ZIH on which the aTrain tool (uses Whisper from OpenAI) is installed. Use is permitted for employees of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics. Students can also use the virtual machine after activation.
