Modernized software distribution and expanded AI offerings
There are new digital innovations at the Faculty of Business and Economics and throughout TU Dresden. With the successful introduction of Baramundi, students benefit from a new software distribution. The university is also expanding its range of services in the field of artificial intelligence.
Successful introduction of Baramundi as software distribution in all PC pools
From now on, students in all four PC pools of our faculty will benefit from a modernized software distribution. The new program ensures that all installed applications are always up to date and that requested software is made available quickly.
What does this mean for students?
- Up-to-date software, always and everywhere: Whether security updates, new versions of Office tools or special software - the systems in the PC pools are managed centrally and updated regularly.
- Quick installation of desired tools: Do you need special programs for courses or projects? Our team can now provide these efficiently and across all pools.
- Consistent working environment: No matter which pool you work in - the software equipment is uniform and reliable.
How was it before?
The previous software distribution (Microsoft SCCM) was very outdated and often required manual intervention, which could lead to delays. With the new solution, we rely on automation to guarantee smooth use. The system independently checks for updates and distributes software packages as required.
What happens next?
We are currently examining the use of central software distribution via Baramundi on the individual PCs you use. You will be informed of further developments in good time.
TUD Dresden University of Technology expands AI offerings: Chat-AI for science and teaching
The TUD is making two new AI services available to its members. The focus is on Chat-AI, which is now available to all members of the university via the Academic Cloud.
Chat-AI: The helper for everyday academic life
Chat-AI is an AI service specially developed for German universities that uses various open-source large language models. The TUD thus offers a central platform for everyday academic use. Whether for creating texts, analyzing data or supporting research - Chat-AI is a versatile tool that can make the work of students, teachers and researchers much easier. A particular highlight of Chat-AI is its ability to handle data that is subject to a high level of confidentiality. This makes the service particularly attractive for projects where data security is paramount.
In contrast to other AI services, which often require time-consuming registration, Chat-AI is already available to all TUD members via the Academic Cloud (registration required).
you.com in pilot operation
In addition to Chat-AI, the TUD also offers access to the enterprise version of you.com. This commercial AI service offers powerful models such as GPT-4 and Claude Sonnet. Use is currently in pilot mode and requires prior registration. Interested students can register via OPAL until April 13.
