Research fields
The research of the chair of Business Information System, esp. intelligent systems and services, is devided into three main research topics:
- Future of Work
The working world is in a state of upheaval. Megatrends, such as the digital transformation, increasing globalization and demographic change, are changing the way, where and when employees work. Consequently, the relationship between employees and employers is changing. Concepts, such as home office or the gig economy, are challenging traditional ways of working and organizational structures. In this context, we explore how individuals act, feel and think in these new work forms.
- Neuro Information Systems, esp. Digital Health
New technologies are changing the way, where and when healthcare services are provided. The relationship between doctor and patient is changing and becoming increasingly digital. Patients have access to a wealth of information via the Internet and can order dietary supplements and medicines on online platforms. Individuals can use wearables (such as smart watches) and mobile applications (such as a nutrition trackers) to independently monitor and optimize their health and well-being. In this context, we investigate how patients' emotions, cognition and behavior are shaped and what factors play a role in these processes. Specifically, we adapt methods from the field of neuroscience to better understand the relation of system design and user reactions.
- Intelligent Mobility, esp. Smart City
Progressive demographic urbanization (the increase in the population living in cities) poses ever-increasing challenges to the mobility infrastructure. The growing need for mobility and the simultaneous reduction in the space available for roads and parking spaces is calling into question the private car as the primary means of transportation. In response, new mobility services, such as car sharing, e-scooter sharing, bike sharing, ride sharing or ride hailing, have been developed and established. These new services are based on the use of specialized information systems (e.g., to book a car sharing vehicle on an online platform) and enable new digital business models. In the context of these new business models, we investigate how customers, organizations and information systems change and what implications can be drawn for future developments. This includes topics such as technology acceptance, design of decision support systems, integration into Smart City concepts, and application of artificial intelligence to predict user behavior.
