New Research Project on Open Data in the Smart City Context: Cooperation Agreement Signed with the City of Dresden
In late August, a partnership agreement was signed with the City of Dresden for the research project titled "Open Data for Citizens, Business, and Administration: Development and Prototypical Implementation of Targeted Approaches for Value Generation in Urban Development." The project is being conducted by the Business Information Systems professorships of Prof. Dr. Susanne Strahringer and Prof. Dr. Martin Wiener in close collaboration with Dr. Lioba Buscher and her team from the Municipal Statistics Office of the City of Dresden. It has a duration of 3.5 years, with the official project kickoff scheduled for the fall of 2023.
The overarching goal of the research project is to support the City of Dresden in implementing its Smart City strategy. The project builds upon the existing Open Data portal of the City of Dresden (https://opendata.dresden.de). It focuses on actively promoting the use of Open Data by citizens, businesses, and administration ("Promote & Facilitate"), as well as evaluating the benefits generated by Open Data for these target groups ("Monitor & Evaluate").
The Open Data project is one of nine measures in the implementation phase of the Smart City Model Project (MPSC) Dresden. The overall project is led by Prof. Dr. Michael Breidung, head of the Municipal IT Services (EB IT) of the City of Dresden and honorary professor of Business Informatics, especially eGovernment, at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Dresden University of Technology.

We look forward to collaborating with our partners to conceive and implement innovative Open Data solutions for urban development.
