Christmas vibes thanks to open data – web application provides information on Dresden's Christmas markets

As part of the Open Data initiative within the Smart City project of the state capital Dresden, a student from the Chair of Business Information Systems, especially Information Systems in Industry and Commerce, at TU Dresden created an interactive Christmas market map for Dresden based on open data. This festive animated web application, which can be accessed at www.weihnachtsmarktkarte-dresden.de, includes all Christmas markets in the city, along with their opening hours, weather data, and extensive information such as directions or nearby restrooms. The application is currently in a beta version but is being continuously further developed.

The creation of the Christmas market web application was kindly supported by the Open Data Information Center Berlin (www.odis-berlin.de) and through funding from the model project Smart Cities (MPSC), financed by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) and the KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau).
