Paper presentation at the 58th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences 2025 in Waikoloa
We are pleased to announce that our chair was represented at the 58th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-58) with a research paper on Open Data. The following paper was presented at HICSS-58, which took place in Waikoloa, Hawaii, from 07/01/2025 to 10/01/2025:
Richard Rau, Karoline Glaser and Martin Wiener in their paper entitled 'Factors Influencing the Use of Open Government Data: A Scoping Literature Review', they examine which factors lead to the use of open government data and which barriers stand in the way of its use. The literature review identified different types of use and intentions on which influencing factors largely depend. This work was developed in the context of the Model Projects Smart Cities (MPSC) Dresden, whereby the results can be used as a starting point for overcoming barriers to the use of the Dresden Open Data Portal. The factors identified also provide guidance on how to improve the usability of the portal, for example by increasing the compatibility of datasets or providing additional metadata.
Through exchange with the international Digital Government, IS & Business Informatics community, new insights and ideas were gained for the MPSC project. Among others, research contributions in the track 'Digital Government: Smart & Connected Cities' track discussed the effective use of AI at various interfaces of an open data portal, e.g. in the provision and preparation of data by the city administration or on the user side for searching and further use of the data. The sessions also provided insights into how open data is being leveraged around the world, for example to increase the resilience of the food supply in Sweden, or how business interactions have been transformed by adapting the open data catalogue in South Korea.
We are very grateful to be able to bring our research to HICSS-58 and use the opportunity for exchange and transfer at the conference.
