Studying at the Chair of Business Information Systems, esp. Business Engineering
Business engineering in the context of the digital transformation of business and society is at the heart of the Chair’s research and teaching activities.
Our Teaching Profile
The portfolio of courses offered is oriented around the three design layers of business engineering (business strategy/model, business processes, and IT systems) and comprises courses on (digital) business engineering methods, model-driven analysis of data-driven business models, business process modeling and management, as well as methods and techniques of IT/software project management. The course portfolio is completed by method courses (e.g., on case study research) and seminars on current socio-technical developments related to business engineering (such as big data, blockchain, ethical concerns, industry 4.0, platform ecosystems).
The overarching goal of our teaching activities is to ensure that our graduates do not only possess excellent theory and method knowledge, but are also able to effectively communicate their knowledge and to apply it onto practical problems. For this reason, especially in our graduate-level courses, we put an increased emphasis on interaction and critical reflection (e.g., by means of using the Harvard Case Method). At the same time, in courses with a relatively high number of participants, we aim to foster student interaction by means of innovative teaching concepts (such as flipped-classroom approaches and interactive online modules).
