For this year's Academy of Management (AoM) Annual Meeting, taking place from July 25 to July 29 in Copenhagen, Denmark, two submissions by employees of the Chair of Information Systems, especially Business Engineering (WiBe), have been accepted.
Among them is the paper by Felix Hirsch entitled "Algorithmic Control in Non-Platform Organisations - Workers’ Legitimacy Judgments". The paper deals with the increasing importance of algorithmic control (AC) in traditional, non-platform-based organizations. In this specific context, the newly introduced algorithmic systems that steer and control employees in their everyday work represent a fundamental change for affected workers. Using the method of fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA), the paper examines how employees judge the legitimacy of the applied algorithmic systems and how character traits decisively impact these judgments.
In addition, a panel symposium proposal submitted by Isabell Lippert in collaboration with Armin Alizadeh (TU Darmstadt) was accepted. In this panel, reputable information systems scholars will discuss the topic "One Decade of Algorithmic Management: Reflections on Progress, Impact, and Future Trajectories." Since the term 'algorithmic management' was coined 10 years ago, it is now time to reflect on its development and discuss the resulting (future) implications. The panellists include Monideepa Tarafdar (University of Massachusetts Amherst), Mareike Möhlmann (Bentley University), Alexander Benlian (TU Darmstadt), Xavier Parent-Rochelau (HEC Montréal) and Mari-Klara Stein (Tallinn University of Technology). We look forward to an exciting discussion with the panellists and thank them in advance for their willingness to participate.
