The construction industry is facing enormous challenges: The sector is characterised by high resource consumption, environmental pollution and low productivity. This is where the Cluster of Excellence CARE comes in, using digital technologies and innovative materials to develop scalable, sustainable construction concepts that can be applied worldwide.

Research areas

The Research Areas (RAs) in CARE provide essential methodologies and theoretical foundations, uniting expertise from various disciplines. They cover three core aspects of construction—materials, design, and digitalization—alongside two cross-sectional areas that act as integrative elements, driving the breakthroughs needed to achieve CARE’s objectives.

TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen University have enjoyed a close and successful collaboration in construction research for many years. Joint researchprojects and initiatives have led to a strong network of science, industry and practice and continue to characterise the development of innovative construction methods and materials in Germany today.

Our Vision

The construction industry uses massive amounts of energy and resources, creates tons of waste and emissions, while struggeling with low productivity and tough working conditions. CARE aims to disruptivly transform key areas of construction, by innovating materials, design, and manufacturing – combining these for breakthrough solutions. By leveraging digital technologies and sustainability frameworks the project will create scalable, affordable, and climate-resilient construction solutions that can be adopted worldwide.
