­Review: Future workshop of the CDD - impulses for strategic development

On June 2, 2025, the future workshop of the Center for Demography and Diversity (CDD) took place at the Falkenbrunnen of TU Dresden. Under the leadership of the new Executive Board , members, interested parties and guests came together to develop perspectives and thematic priorities for the CDD's future work.

Following a presentation of the Board and the CDD's work to date, the focus was on networking and reorientation. In alternating small groups, key interfaces between demography and diversity were identified and bundled into five thematic clusters - including "Diversity as a social value" and "Urban-rural conflicts and their demographic implications".

These two topics were then discussed in greater depth. For the "Diversity as a value / participation" cluster, it was emphasized that diversity must not only be viewed in economic terms, but must also be understood as a social resource. Concrete ideas for implementation range from target group-oriented communication strategies to the development of new teaching and event formats.

In the "Urban-rural differences" cluster, challenges in rural and border regions were discussed - for example in relation to services of general interest, migration or the attractiveness for international specialists. Possible next steps were also identified here, including the evaluation of existing funding programs and new research partnerships.

In the concluding discussion, key measures were agreed, including

• a follow-up workshop in October 2025 on project development
• a planned contribution to the TU Dresden Diversity Days in November
• a data salon on demographic topics in the first quarter of 2026.
