Prof. Simon Alberti Elected as an EMBO Member

Prof. Simon Alberti, managing director and research group leader at the Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC) of TUD Dresden University of Technology, was elected as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). EMBO membership recognizes his research excellence and outstanding achievements in the field of molecular and cell biology. As an EMBO Member, Prof. Alberti joins a society of top researchers in the world.

EMBO is a prestigious international organization that brings together life scientists. Its mission is to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers and ultimately help build a European research environment that lets scientists achieve their best work. EMBO membership honors outstanding scientists in the life science field. As one of the new EMBO members, Prof. Alberti will join the EMBO Council, evaluate funding applications, and help mentor young scientists.

This year, EMBO elected 69 new members. New members are nominated and elected by the existing EMBO Membership. EMBO will formally welcome the new members at the annual Members’ Meeting in Heidelberg, Germany, between 25-27 October 2023.

About Prof. Alberti
Prof. Simon Alberti is a leading expert in cellular stress. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Bonn. He then moved to the Whitehead Institute (Cambridge, USA) for his postdoctoral work. In 2010, he moved to Dresden to start a research group at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG). Since 2018, he has been leading a research group at the Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC) of TUD Dresden University of Technology, where he is currently the managing director. Together with his research group, he aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the molecular implications of stress. His group continues to make progress in helping to understand molecular condensates, which is one of the most rapidly advancing research areas in molecular biology.
